The bond only trowel has a flat space between the notches with that does is it leaves a little bit of a void. It’s great if you’re using it for bond only but it won’t give you that 100% coverage that you need if you’re using it for moisture control. This is because it’ll pretty much scrape clean between the notches when you’re troweling and applying the product. In the video you can see how you’re getting your coverage from below and why you have to use that proper trowel from moisture control.

Using the right trowel during adhesive application

The moisture control trowel, as seen above, comes to a point and those ridges come to a point between the notches. In doing so they will fill in once you put your wood flooring into it. Those pointed ridges fill in those voids and once those are filled in you, don’t have to worry about moisture coming up in those areas To give you the moisture control that is critical to get 100% anytime you’re using any moisture barrier adhesive because if you have voids it could come up and damage your wood flooring planks.

Adhesive as seen below with two types of trowel applications with Ridgeline Adhesive

In general when working with any moisture adhesive we also suggest to place the lid back on the pail as soon as possible. By ensuring your place the lid back on the pail you’ll prevent any moisture from getting in and actually causing the adhesive to react and start to cure.

Once the flooring is then installed overtop the adhesive in a home you will then come in with your 75 to 100 pound roller the flooring immediately. The roller will give you excellent bond so remember next time you’re installing hardwood floor with bond only or moisture control or sound control think of Taylor Ridgeline Taylor available in Canada with Jona Panel Sales Inc.
